Contact Earth Dance Company began in March 2004 with choreographer teacher Virginia Norrie M.A.(Dance Performance)Bch.(Contemporary Music). Teaching at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium in the Dance Department, C.E.D.'s first piece entitled 'First Light' was performed at the annual Byron dance showcase 'Big Feet, LittleFeet'in July 2004. C.E.D. has moved into the realms of dance theatre with a new member from Holland, Elke Van Rees a fabulous stilt walker. joining other dancers Nicolina Chartorisky and Virginia Norrie. C.E.D. will be performing their new show 'Hissy Fits' at the Tap Gallery, Sydney on Sunday 14th May as part of the Mamapalooza showcase www.mamapalooza.com “Hissy Fits” from the word hysteria (a psychological illness), comes from hustera, the Latin word for womb. Back in time, it was believed that women had mental problems because of their wombs. C.E.D. tackles these phenomena with an irreverent, elaborate portrayal of infamous women from herstory through dance theatre. |
